Are you looking for a new design idea that will add some fun toy our home? Do you have an affinity with the generation of love? Do you think lava lamps are just the coolest thing ever? Here are some ideas to help you design the ultimate “chill out” room.
Firstly, eliminate all of the drab colors. White walls can be useful but cream, and muted colors are boring and dull. You should spruce up those walls with a new coat of paint. Choose your two favorite colors and if they complement each other, paint the walls with them in opposing pairs. Once you have your color scheme established then stick with it and take it to the extreme.
Get yourself some effects like cool lava lamps and lightning globes. Not only will these act as design pieces but they will also produce light and give the room a calming glow when the main lights are turned down. Smoke machines are another cool idea but they should be used sparingly.
If you want to step it up a couple notches then you should get yourself an effects projector. Who needs giant lava lamps when you can have a whole wall of swirling colors fading through the spectrum? Look for water effect and fire effect projectors. These will mostly be sold for theatrical effects but you can get commercial versions that don’t cost as much. The top of the line is dual gobo projectors with offset glass gobos and multi-directional rotation. That’s a little out of the average person’s price range though.
Whether you are going to be setting up a theatrical production in your home or just want to get some lava lamps, you need to think about seating first. Low to the ground and comfortable seating is optimal. Avoid beanbag chairs. They are awful and never comfortable. Look for couches that are low slung and relaxed in their posture.
These are just a couple ideas that you can use to make a room into your ultimate hangout space. Throw a theme party once a month and enjoy the wild and crazy lifestyle.
